My family used Poway-Bernaro Mortuary a few years ago and we were very satisfied with our experience. We liked that PBM is family-owned and a smaller location compared to other mortuaries in the area.

We worked with Denise to arrange a viewing service and have our loved one cremated afterwards. Karen helped us with the catering for the viewing. All of the staff were professional and helpful in the days leading up to and during the event. PBM offers a nice, clean, and simple yet intimate space for your services. If that's what you are looking for, then I recommend considering them, asking them questions, and visiting their location to see if it fits your family's needs.

Likewise, the staff were very proactive in contacting me and letting me know about administrative issues like the status of the death certificates, etc. They also provided us with scans of our loved one's fingerprints that we could use to order jewelry. Years later, we worked with Jocelyn to confirm and secure the documents needed to bring an urn overseas.

I can't thank the staff of the Poway Bernardo Mortuary enough for their assistance in helping me prepare for my fathers funeral. I know it's their job to do so with compassion and understanding, yet we really felt the genuine feeling of kindness and support from them. With such a rush I had to prepare, they helped shoulder the burden I had in preparing and organizing the entire process from beginning to end and were able to accommodate our needs and wishes of the entire family.

One of my best friends passed away in October, her wake was held at this facility. I don’t know the name of the woman who greeted me at the front or any of the staff; but she was one of the most comforting, professional, compassionate woman I’ve ever met at this type of ceremony. The chapel was; beautiful, clean, all around lovely. Great seating, great set up, wonderful staff, parking was convenient. My friend looked beautiful, they did such an incredible job from the flowers to her cosmetics and the personable touches. I wanted to take a moment to share my experience, I know I wasn’t a direct client, but as a guest I was very impressed. Thank you Poway Mortuary for making a very hard moment beautiful.

A family member recently passed away. Melissa and her staff took excellent care of us throughout this terribly sad time. The visitation went as planned including compliance with COVID-19 rules and restrictions. The staff was excellent in every regard. All visitors were accommodated with minimal or no delay as a result of their professionalism. The photo slideshow was excellent and appreciated by all. Coordination, transport, and interment to the cemetery in Orange County went as planned, even during a windy and rainy day. All details were perfectly addressed by the Poway Bernardo Mortuary staff. Thanks again for taking care of us at this time of need. We felt as though we were being taken care of by family.

My dad died in November in Rancho Bernardo, CA and was buried at West Point Military Academy in January. Poway-Bernardo Mortuary was the mortuary that helped us with all of the arrangements, including making Dad look distinguished and peaceful, then shipping him to West Point. We knew that Dad was dying, so my mom and I went to Poway-Bernardo in June while I was visiting from Houston to discuss how we would handle a West Point funeral from California. Poway-Bernardo had taken care of my grandma in 1996, and she, too, looked lovely; she was also buried elsewhere. Tory helped us. He walked us through the entire process, was very compassionate, and basically took care of the entire thing. He advised us as we selected Dad's coffin and the assorted things associated with a funeral. He contacted West Point, made arrangements with a receiving mortuary for the viewing and transportation to the chapel and cemetery. Any time we had a question or a concern, Tory or someone else at P-B was responsive, informative and helpful. I was very grateful to have them helping us through this difficult and stressful time. I felt that my dad and my mom (since her kids are all so far away) were in good hands. Every aspect of Dad's funeral and burial that P-B was responsible for went smoothly. I would not hesitate to trust them again with the all important task of caring for a departed loved one.

Won't go into a lot of detail but they did an extremely poor job with the viewing in preparing my mother's body. She looked nothing like the pictures we sent in prep, and more like a corpse than a sleeping person like it's intended to be.

What was also awful was that one of the administrators we had met (as in sitting in an enclosed space with them for 45 min or so) in preparing the funeral was positive for covid and then just casually mentioned it in an email the day after, making my family have to get tested and do the runaround looking for test kits (this was back in January). We had planned the funeral to be held within the same week as our initial meeting with the funeral home so it was the worst timing, and the casual attitude they carried with this news was distressing like it was no big deal for them.

Overall we despise this funeral home and do not recommend. When I die I would rather be chopped and thrown in the ocean a la Dexter than deal with their over charged services again.

They did a great job with presenting my husband for his viewing. Denise was the one who assisted me with all the arrangements and she was fantastic - very professional and accommodating. Highly recommended.
