Arguably the best private-own costume rental house in the whole world… It’s just hard to think of other place that facilitate this much of magnitude, both in quantity of rental costumes and quality of their service.

Practically speaking, you should be able to everything you need for the background performers’ costumes as long as your show is set in America or western region. Only genres you might not get from here would be international exotic costumes such as Asian period costumes.

Yet, there are huge stock of costumes in all kinds of themes. They are sorted out by categories such as men’s hat, women’s dress in certain period, accessories or miscellaneous. The military section has specialized personnel and it’s impressive.

They have fitting rooms and reserved work spaces for professional productions. They also sell some basic on-set tools and expendables for costumers. You can ship from and to this location. They will do their own cleaning for the costume that you rented, so you don’t have to dry clean before you return. Not many places do that. (This sort of service policies might change in future. Make sure to ask.)

Just walking down the aisles, you will see the part of Hollywood history, and it might inspire you in many ways!

Many years ago I came here looking for costume options for a videogame character. Found many of the real pieces instead and pretty much matched exactly and pieces in my design, if not 90% close to what it looked like. It's an museum actually, worth a visit to get a sense of the scale of operation.

Great assortment of costumes and wonderfully talented wardrobe staff! Overall mostly good experiences there for fittings for filmsTV, good friendly staff (occasionally only problem is a rare PA w an attitude, though 95% are nice & efficient). Well worth looking into and hiring for all your wardrobe needs! 🙂

They have amazing authentic costumes here. However after three or four hours searching and trying on items, come to find out I needed $600.00 on my credit card for one item. Even more money on card for another item, which made it impossible to rent the western cowboy get up...Ended up at Party City buying a cheap Indian costume. I'll never go back unless I'm a millionaire.

While some costume houses come close, Western Costume Co. has the largest selection of costumes available. The staff is always pleasant and eager to help (with the exception of the girls at the rental counter who tend to be surly and always have a "bitter" look on their face). The checking out and in system is more than a bit antiquated which can slow you down just a tad. But the selection and the decent pricing outweighs any of that. Add to that that they're not only a rental company but they have full costume construction services: a cobbler/leather guy who is a wizard, a milliner who can create just about anything, a dress shop that made me a beautiful fur coat that I designed and a tailor that is super talented. I use Western Costumes whenever I'm not constrained by production parameters.

This place is really cool and if you're reading this review then you are likely an actor, an filmmaker or a costume enthusiast and it's true, this is the best place in L.A for that purpose. They do rentals as well. Good luck.

This place is not a rental store. It's a warehouse - a giant, Costco-sized warehouse filled with costumes. And they mostly cater to the entertainment industry. That's why if you're just an average Joe trying to rent a costume, they will treat you like a second-rate citizen. They were patronizing, arrogant and at times downright rude. If you can get past that, they'll probably have whatever you're looking for. I personally couldn't deal with the holier-than-thou attitude.
