Extremely disappointed with this establishment… my better half went in looking for a specific model train, found the one he wanted. When he went to go purchase the train for the price shown in the photo, the proceeded to say the pricing is wrong and had to call the owner. (Mind you this isn’t the first time this has happened) after getting off the phone with the owner, they proceeded to say the price is now $700! Per CT state laws, what they’re doing is illegal.
They have done this previously, as I was there the first time it happened. They honored the price for the train we purchased when this occurred. But told us going forward they won’t honor it again, if it were to happen again, which it did! They’re false advertising prices. Be warned, DO NOT go there. Will be sending this info to the BBB for illegally false advertising pricing…

It is a kids dream (and an adults!)! They have a great selection of hobby toys. We got gift ideas while there shopping for Christmas. Their selection of Lionel O Guage model trains is good. Our daughter found a logic game there that I had never heard of, but she has taken to it and is obsessed. The staff are kind and readily answer questions. We will absolutely be coming back soon!

Paradise for children! This is a gorgeous, traditional store that will make you spend way more than you planned. And you won’t even regret it, it is a great experience! The variety of toys, old fashion and new toys, is amazing. I absolutely love that they have a book room, also a huge basement with many rooms and various and creative display where trains fly on tracks. I definitely noticed that all the kids visiting that day, including my own, were in awe.

Wow!!! This place in STOCK FULL of new and exciting toys. Everything from fidgets, to Legos to Vintage Trains. They even have a new Hogwarts section. Almost too much stimulation for a patron lol.

Anyways, this place is way BETTER than any Big Box store.

Yes, it is pricey, but it’s really worth it, not only for the great selection of toys, but also for the experience the kids get.

I have been going to Amato’s since I was a little girl, and now as a mother I continue to bring my daughter to Amato’s as it’s one of the only toy stores we still have around. The staff whether it’s for the front end of the store, or the back end of the store where they keep all the RC cars is always super friendly, and helpful if you are looking for something specific

Amato’s Toy and Hobby is a great, old school, toy store. Once upon a time, we had an Amato’s in New Britain, but that one eventually closed and was torn down. For this reason, I appreciate this store that much more.
Besides toys, it is a hobby store too, so if you’re into trains or perhaps models, you are bound to find something that you like here.
Parking is available on the street and there are meters, so you may want to bring some change. During the holidays, they get super busy and parking could get tricky as it did for me yesterday. That is when I discovered that there is a parking lot behind it that is accessible from Washington Street. Behind that is a public parking lot with meters (you’re still going to want to bring change) that is accessible the same way.
Both of the parking lots will give you access to the rear entrance of the store.
The staff here is both friendly and helpful.
This place is definitely worth a look…
