This was my second trip to Black Bear Island Lodge, Thank you to; D. J. & Dawn, Matthew, Trevor and Ron for making this an even more special trip than prior. It was AMAZING to get to be able to fish and catch Large Trophy Pike and Walleye. My arms, shoulders and muscles were sore from all the fish. I swear I gained 5 lbs., from the Awesome food served, and the shore lunches that can not be beat. If you want a fishing trip that you will Never forget go here. The service and experience is second to none. Bring your camera to save those moments.

I had always wanted to fish a Northern Saskatchewan Lake, and it had become a "Bucket List" item. I met D.J.(Owner) at the Saskatoon Sportsman Show and was impressed with the pictures he had displayed, as well as the Value of the planned trip. Once I had decided to actually "Do It " and booked the trip I could not wait. I booked in early September 2018. One I arrived at the Lodge I was greeted warmly and stood back. My bags and gear were taken to my room. Since I was early D.J. had me out fishing with a very experience local guide. We caught a number of fish in a short few hours. As this was my first fishing experience in 25 or more years I lacked knowledge of some basic fishing techniques, i.e. how to ty a basic knot. Not to worry my guide had many, many years of fishing. He did "Everything" he could to help me. I spent 3 days fishing and had sore arms, The Shore lunches were absolutely Awesome. The meals, Breakfast and Suppers were filling and very tasty. Thanks Dawn & staff . The staff went out of there way to make you feel special. I will High recommend Black Bear Island Lodge. I have zero complaints and I plan to Book an other trip. Thank you BBIL see you next year.

World's finest. Good fishing, good food, good friends, can’t ask for anything better. Thank you to four people at Black Bear Island Lodge that made this and awesome trip DJ, Dawn, Matthew and Ron. Everything deserves a 5+ the only reason I gave. 4 to the rooms is because I have old bones and could have used a softer bed. When you arrive you know you are on holidays, the service is second to none. The location and the view from your cabin/deck is magnificent. Be prepared for big fish, stories and laughs.

We have gone to Black Bear many times over the last 15 years. We have gone both with our 3 children and just ourselves.We can honestly say that the fishing has been totally amazing every time and the shore lunches are incredible! Even though there are so many great things about this place; the food, fishing, scenery and tranquility to name a few; a big reason we keep going back is because of the hosts. DJ and Dawn are such great people and we consider them to not only be the very best hosts, but also our valued friends!||||Ken & Sylvia

I researched as much as I could before I went to Black Bear Island Lodge. Still part of me wondered if this place was really as special as everyone comments on. Well I can tell you the answer is absolutely yes! Once the float plane took off and I was able to see just how amazing the area we were going to was I knew this was going to be a great week. The lodge was perfect, the fish were massive, and the bear hunting was insane!

DJ, Dawn, and my guide Trevor were fantastic. I enjoyed every moment of this trip. If you are considering Black Bear Island Lodge I PROMISE you that you are making the right decision. I will be taking my oldest son here in a few years as soon as he is old enough. My friends and I are already planning our next trip back. Thank you so much for such a fantastic week!

I have gone to Black Bear Island Lodge 7 times over the last 13 years. This is the first time to I wright a review. ||They treat you as if you are part of the family and everything is taken care of from beginning to end.||You will arrive at the dock in La Ronge and at the appointed time be picked up with a float plane to take you to the lodge at Black Bear Island. ||We arrived to a warm welcome and had time before a wonderful dinner to allow our grand kids to fish off the docks. They also fished until dark. Breakfast is @7:00 in the morning after a wake up call of fresh coffee @ 6:30. We then headed out with their very experianced Local guides ( all of which are very personable and efficient). The fishing was fantastic with the biggest being a 48 1/2” Northern Pike. We caught many pike over 40” and Walleye over 20” . Everyone caught a lot of fish all day long. ||We stop at noon. Where the guides prepared a shore lunch of fresh Waleye, potatoes & onions and beans. The shore lunch is a gourmet feast. Absolutely great. We returned every evening tired and ready for a great dinner at the lodge dinning room. Where we chat with all of the other guests and share pictures of our catches and listen to the stories of the day. ||After five days of this fishing paradise we were returned to La Ronge allowing us to have ample time to make our connections to return home.||I have been to other fishing camps in the La Ronge area prior to finding Black Bear Island Lodge; however, none of them held up to the every day high standards of Black Bear. I am now planning a return to the lodge with my granddaughters. ||Best of the best.

I had the most amazing fishing trip to Black Bear Island Lake Lodge. The hosts DJ and Dawn were wonderful and made us feel so welcome. DJ is quite a storyteller so we had lots of laughs. Matthew took such great care of us, bringing coffee to our cabin in the morning, carrying fishing gear to the boat, greeting us at the end of the day, carrying all your gear back to your cabin. The guides were great and very helpful. Ron was a super nice guy. You will never go hungry, the meals were delicious. We were treated as royalty!
A great vacation. Even though I was ready to go home, I was sad to leave. Made some great friends and memories that will last a lifetime. I will definitely return!

The owners and guides were both fun to be around. The facilities were comfortable and the food was delicious. The shore lunch was amazing and we had a lot of fun catching fish while the guide cooked. I had never been pike fishing before and I my have spoiled it for myself, because I caught a pike that was in the 40in range every day.
I would highly recommend enjoying a great time fishing or hunting with the folks at Black Bear Island lodge.
