The facility itself is undeniably impressive, but my experience raised deeper questions about the true values of modern Christianity. I attended with my father, who has significant mobility challenges, only to find that not a single person was willing to give up their aisle seat so he could sit with his family. Instead, we were left to sit apart—an inconvenience that, while minor, felt profoundly symbolic of a broader issue.

It made me reflect on what modern Christianity has come to represent. Too often, faith seems reduced to rituals, attendance, and appearances, while the deeper call to compassion, humility, and sacrifice is neglected. This wasn’t just about a seat; it was about the lack of awareness or willingness to prioritize the needs of others, even in a space that claims to champion selflessness.

The experience reminded me of the story of the pastor who disguised himself as a homeless person to reveal the shallow priorities of his congregation. How often do we, as individuals and as a faith community, measure success by external markers—attendance records, immaculate facilities, and public declarations of belief—while failing the simplest tests of empathy and humanity?

Perhaps modern Christianity has become too entangled with materialism, comfort, and social performance, losing sight of its foundational principles. We are not called to merely show up but to show love. True faith is not found in polished sermons or perfect pews, but in the quiet, unglamorous moments where kindness costs us something. Until those moments take precedence, the church risks becoming little more than a hollow reflection of the values it claims to challenge.

If I could give zero stars then I would and I hate to have to even say that because I started out absolutely loving this church and so did my wife. Yes my (who is a woman) WIFE.

First and foremost we started at the church about a month ago after moving here from Wyoming. We absolutely fell in love. Everyone was so welcoming (even though we’re two women). We felt right at home and felt like we finally found our place. What especially stood out to me was that “everyone is welcome”. I thought to myself, FINALLY. A place who actually accepts all people. Thank you God.

Moving across the country can be very challenging and we made the choice to turn to God to help us through it all and make sure our foundation was rock solid to continue to build our lives and marriage together in Florida.

The church then announced their groups and we were SO excited when we saw the marriage group. Seemed like God was just setting everything in place for us. I register us for the group, we get accepted and now it’s time for the first group which is today.

Out of respect of the leaders of the group, I called beforehand so that everyone is on the same page and they don’t feel like they have to change any of their teachings to translate it to match our marriage. We are very aware that the Bible refers to a man and woman being married. We knew that would be the basis but the teachings are all still applicable REGARDLESS of your sex, so it wasn’t a big deal to us.

Imagine my shock, confusion and frustration when I was told we aren’t allowed in the group because the Bible is based on man and woman relationships. But yet this is also coming from the same mouths that preach everyone is welcome and we aren’t meant to judge others, that’s Gods job… but yet we’re still not welcome.

Sounds an awful lot like judgement to me. It’s so disheartening and devastating that a church I love so much doesn’t fully accept me for me.

I’ve heard Pastor Dustin speak many times on come as you are and to love your neighbors as you would yourself. But yet the doors were closed on us as soon as they found out we were both women. Oh but I can still go to my Sunday service.

The foundation of a marriage is the foundation of a marriage. It doesn’t matter who’s in it or what sex they are. Everything the Bible and God teach us is applicable to all walks of life. Not just the ones you seem fit.

I couldn’t imagine claiming to be a Pastor and turning away people who are turning to God to help them through their hard times. It’s unfathomable to me.

I have never been more disappointed. Don’t claim everyone is welcome when everyone isn’t welcome.

Been coming to this church over 10 years and waiting out in the cold for jingle jam lady says are u here for jingle jam like really duh said I couldn't come in and sit on the bench never had a problem before. Won't be coming back to this church .

We had our Leadership Summit at Journey Christian Church Apopka 🙏🏿💒🙌🏿 The Pastor and Staff welcomed my Church Family (Majestic Life Church) and treated us like Family. The Church is beautiful and the flowers were my personal favorite 🌸🌼🌺

It’s a place you can call home because everybody welcomes you like you own place ; you’re getting hugs ,and hi 5 , and the most importantly you get to know more about Jesus Christ our savior. The church is wonderful the service started on time and ended on time , the atmosphere is pleasant for anyone who wants to come , and the pastors are very nice and respectful every single member from church easy to approach and they talk so nice. People go it’s must try. If you’re not too busy stop by one of the Sunday to see the ambiance.

Journey Christian Church is by far the best church in Central Florida, and definitely the best church I’ve personally ever walked into during my 16+ year walk with Jesus Christ! So incredibly thankful for Pastor Dustin and every single member of Journey, you can truly feel the Holy Spirit the moment you walk into the building. Everyone I’ve encountered is so filled with love, compassion, understanding, and absolutely ZERO judgement. They emphasize the important truths of Christianity - that Jesus Christ paid for our sins on the cross before He rose on the third day, that we are ALL sinners who are only saved by the grace of God, and that we need to love/serve our neighbors. Everything they teach comes directly from the Bible with NOTHING else added. Better yet, Pastor Dustin truly breaks scripture down to where a 5-year old can understand it and actually improve their lives with it, something so needed in today’s time. The Word is where we see Jesus Christ the most, and I love how they stress the importance of reading the Bible for ourselves to grow our faith and understanding. There are no words to describe my gratitude for Journey Christian, all I can say is God is GOOD and He has definitely blessed this church! Come as you are, you will not regret showing up!
