Beautiful old church. We went to a yard sale they were having. Everyone was really nice. Postcard New England. The one star review someone did is really not valid - seems like they only went there to find something to be offended about.

I came to this church from NYC once for the 2022 new year sermon. A boy was guest preacher and the building was beautifully decorated. The message was short and the crowd was sparse. I'd spent maybe 40 minutes in the building. There was a softly sung hymn I found unfit for celebrating as I was expecting to receive a blessing and to ring in the new year bathed in the holy spirit. To be washed in the word. We were invited to either sit or stand for the spirit. There was a balcony upstairs for I assume the elders and other more important members to look down on the masses from. As everything wrapped up, we were ushered across the street where they were serving dry, crumbly cookies, cheap iced donuts, tea and coffee. Before leaving one building to enter a next, the preacher greeted everyone at the door and shook everyone's hand. While waiting to leave, a woman stopped me to compliment me. "That's a beautiful little half cape you have on there". That made me happy to hear because my mom had gotten me some fur for Christmas just the week before and I wanted to wear it to church. I thought this was a genuine compliment so I thanked her. She immediately goes on to say "maybe not for 50 degree weather". And in that one moment, that slick comment turned her into a Karen. As if she'd only come to church to be a fashionista. I did not respond to this bully. I did not look at her to see her face for I was simply turned off from the church due to this one Karen's need to be so wretched against someone she did not know and I only just wanted to leave then. Karen, if you are seeing this. I believe it was Jesus who said "come as you are", right? You are a judgemental wanna-be Christian in the house of god and you will make the church lose it's congregation. You will make the church lose it's parishioners (with your need to be rude to people) and therefore money. It cost you zero dollars to have kept your comments to yourself...for you to have maybe just not said anything would've been MORE productive. You would've set a better example for the young girls of the church who surrounded you at the time of this your poor comment. I will not remember the church for it's sermon or the preacher or the beauty of the interior. Not for the halfhearted snacks or the meditative hymn or the high up balcony but for YOU the Karen who inhabited the house of god just to be unchristlike to others. Looking back on it now, maybe this Karen was autistic and was unable to control herself but if that is not the case then please...do better

I had been looking for a church. I went to SBCC once and never left. It's a welcoming congregation and a wonderful service with evocative sermons, lovely music (a great organist), and a compelling spiritual atmosphere. Come for a visit. You'll be more than welcomed.

This place cares quite a bit. Their christmas services are always a delight. You don't need to say a word, nicr people, nice atmoaphere and they even help the community. I was baptised here.
